Atlas

Ideas in action.

An artwork can require a surprising amount of groundwork before I can begin to compose it. A lifetime of ideas requires opportunity. That’s where the Atlas comes in.

The idea may already be clear, but the elements needed to make it exist have to be photographed.

Some of this can be planned. Much of it depends on being in the right place, in the right season, with the right light and enough time to make use of what is there.

The Atlas is the working part of that process: the planning, places, seasons, shoots and photographic material that allow an idea to become an artwork.

Some ideas wait patiently for the right season. Some almost beg to be composed.

And the Atlas continues to grow wherever I am.

And from here, ideas become artworks.
