The Story
The Story
I have always been fascinated by the way Italy wears its history so casually.
You walk through Pienza or Rome and centuries of other people's lives are simply there — in the stone underfoot, the worn ledges, faded plaster, old doorways and buildings that continue to be lived in long after the people who built them have gone.
We have inherited these visual languages and woven them into our contemporary lives. European architecture, gardens, flowers, objects and traditions have travelled far beyond the places they began, carried into other countries and other lives until they become part of our own idea of beauty and home.
The Italian Connection grew from that relationship.
It began with a guerrilla still life series that I created within the ancient alleyways of Rome and the Tuscan hill towns, before those places began travelling home with me — as photographed backgrounds, architectural details and objets d’art, woven into new compositions filled with flowers and beauty, each another strand in the fabric of our inheritance.
Old histories, carried forward and woven into contemporary stories of our own.

“Paula Petherick crafts masterpieces using fine art photography. Her incredibly detailed pieces are enriched with textures and layers reminiscent of the Dutch Masters style”
